'Old dipping vat'

This 'old dipping vat' is all thats left of where we used to gather all the local cattle, & put them in corrals, then drive them one by one into the vat.
It was filled with water & chemicals to kill the 'ticks' & parasites.
The neighbor boys would lend a hand on our horses, driving each herd one at a time to be dipped.
The cattle would stop, then jump as far as they could, (going under), then swim out on the other side, which was concrete & slanted downward to get the dip back into the vat.
pics are dipping vat, & a young 'fossis', about 17 at the time, with my horse 'Sugarfoot', (with blaze face), & a horse I was training for a man.

Thanks for the memories, Fossis. We didn't have one on our place, but I do remember another person who did. Nowadays, the sprays work, but time consuming. Love the pics of your younger years, speaking of "Sugar Foot"...do you remember a TV series by that name?

I'da never guessed on that one Fossis. Of course I'm not an ol' rancher either. Looks like a good spot to change the oil in the car though. ;)

I'm not an old rancher either but I was a farmhand for a couple years. We used to "run" cattle using pickup trucks and ATV's, when we had to gather them up to "doctor" or sort a few out, no working horses on that farm. 8) This was when I was fresh out of high school and didn't have a care in the world. The good ole days, sure do miss 'em. Nice photos Fossis. :)

I have seen old films of them running cattle through those pits..they looks kinda freaked out ...lol.You wouldn't want to get in the way if ya know what I mean..

Yeah, they could smell the chemicals, & sense the fright of
the other cattle, so it was quite a time.

Yep, the spray does the trick nowadays, & you guessed where I
got my horses name. ;D

The old corrals have mostly rotted down, I just stopped
to show some folks the other day, & took pic's.
Now all it does is 'grow mosquitoes'. :-[

I never roped, or rode bulls, but did my share of 'man handling'
calves for castration, vacanation, & using 'head chutes' for dehorning.
I started with one heifer & a horse, & sold seven head of cattle a few
years later when I bought a car & entered the service.
I have never owned a cow since.

.Hey Fossis.. great pics, looks just like the one out on the farm. And you are right, they do have a habit of filling up with water
and raising mosquitoes
