Hit an old foundation near a steam boat landing the last couple days. This site has been hit hard in the past and given up alot of LC's and some spanish silver. I found some flat buttons, an old brass spike, part of a clay pipe and yesterday I found a make-up compact, when I got home I was sorting thru the stuff and shook the compact and heard something rattle inside. This has happened many times before and when I open them I find old hard make-up, parts of a mirror or dirt. This time I found a 1864 Nova Scotia cent... Went back today and found a couple small hand forged nails, 3 buttons, a childs ring and a 1794 half cent. Hopefully the frost will hold off for a while longer and there's more detecting this season... The half cent clearly shows the 179 and the 4 is faded but readable, couldn;t get the date to show clearly in a pic.. Have it soaking and hopefully more details will show clearer on it.
