Cast iron has been used for cooking for ages and still preferred by some like me. The legs on that indicate that it was used to cook in hot coals and the side loops would be where a handle or two would be. The legs were lomg to get it up off the ground so you could put hot coals under it. The handle was used for two purposes. One being the obvious to lift it and the oer to hang it suspending it over an open fire.
To use this you would start yor fire and hang the pot on a typos and slowly lower it as the fire burned down until it was sitting on the ground with the hot coals under it. Is til cook outside in a Dutch oven in this fashion when campng.

If you find the lid you could clean the whole thing up and use it.
