What is the best app for checking out old maps.
not sure where you are from, but here in NY the old census maps are amazing. Some of them were on historicmapworks . com, others I found through local historical societies or the historical society web sites. Some i found simple searching online by throwing the keywords census, maps, county or state, year(probably not the best method but it worked). i started at 1790(first known land purchase of my area) and just search for every year until I got hits that interested me. some were not even census maps that popped up but still grabbed my interest for one reason or another. It took me entering every year untill 1851 until I hit my first major census map. Through that process I learned that 1851 was pretty much the first year my area of ny started being extensively recorded.
