Hi
I found this on the beach in North Cornwall
It measures 4 ft X 6 inches X 1.5 inches, it is heavy like oak and has been drying out since April time this year.
Can anyone tell me what it is ?

There are many more pieces of dockage, piers, buildings floating around the seas than wood from shipwrecks. All the storms and hurricanes, typhoons deposit more beams and planks into the ocean than all the shipwrecks, so unless the piece of wood has things like brass or copper fasteners, or other nautical clues it is really not possible to get a true ID on it. Waterlogged wood will always be dense and heavy even after drying for months or years, the salt permeates the wood and stays behind when the water evaporates. Amazingly flotsam even goes from ocean to ocean, so a piece of a dock shack from Tahiti has the possibility of ending up on your beach. Oh, and welcome to the site!! Hope you find a real treasure!!

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard
! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

your piece has the tell tale marks of treenails....those are the large holes you see in the plank....also see some spike holes too. I feel its from a ship, but it would be hard to say for sure....i would preserve and keep it for my art projects....very nice congrats !!

Could also be large bolt holes from shore side facilities.....docks, warfs, piers, etc.

Thanks,
It has round holes that had wood in but when it dried they fell out also still has square wooden plugs still in the wood approx 1/4 across flats, I'm hoping it is off an old ship

Shown next to the pen is a tapered piece of wood, there are many of this in the larger piece approximately 20 or so.
1 1/4 inches long and 1/4 across flats to a point.
