"Piss poor" Came from a time when people would sell their urine for tanning leather.
REALLY POOR people in those times didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of .
>
Urine had a value for leather tanning and wool processing before other chemicals became common .

My grandmother...

take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
We complain about our shoes until we see the man with no feet.
You're gonna eat a peck of dirt before you die.
If wishes were nickels, beggars wold ride.
and my favorite of hers was....Because the eyes in the back of my head were closed :)

My grandmother-in-law talking about me.
"If he does anything wrong, it's while I'm sleeping, 'cause I sure don't see it". Gotts love her! :)

I spent a great deal of time with my Grandmother when I was young and loved to hear her tell the stories of her childhood.

When she would talk about WWII, she would tell of the rationing, the scrap drives and the general Patriotism of all Americans.

She would also say in a "hushed" voice, "Loose lips sink ships!"

Later, as an adult, she told me, "Believing in yourself doesn't make your goal easier. It makes it possible."

Love my Gramma....It's sad that I don't even know if she is still alive. I haven't visited with her since I left Kansas almost 10 years ago....She's in a "health care facility" in Kansas is the last I know. I wish that I could afford to go see her, my Sister and my Aunt, all in the same area of Lawrence. The last of my family.

Which leads me to understand the saying, "Home is where the Heart is."
Especially with the Holidays coming up...

Please spend time with your family this season, hug them, tell them how much you love them, and,
ask them about "OLD TIMEY SAYIN'S!"

Best Wishes,
Scott

Here's an oldie, but a goodie.. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater :laughing7:
That one came from in the olden days when everyone took a bath in the same water in the wash tub, by the time the baby got its turn the water was so dingy and dirty, that you may not know that the baby was still in there soakin' and accidentally " Throw the baby out with the bath water"

"Fool's names and fool's faces all appear in public places ". ( Restroom graffiti and wanted posters on post office walls .)
:icon_scratch: Haven't been in a post office for years . Do they still hang wanted posters on the walls?
The aunt that reared my mother from age 7 to marriage at 16 used to take me to the post office to show me ;what she
claimed were ; pictures of my daddy's family :tongue3:

LAWD , AWMIGHTY ! That'd make a puppy dog pull a freight train .

She was fugly enough to make a freight train take a dirt road .

Well , I dropped my candy in the dirt on that move .(Serious error in judgement)

A bit of research on "To cross the Rubicon"
Caesar had overtaken his cohorts at the river Rubicon, which was the utmost boundary of his province, he rested for a while; then, considering how great an enterprise he was undertaking, turned to those who stood next to him and said, " As yet friends, we are able to turn back; but once we pass over this little bridge, there will be no business but by force of arms and dint of sword." cube700.jpg
