hello all, im a newbie to this site. a good friend of mine has about 80 acres up in monticello, ny. i hunted the property and all i found so far was a 1896 indian head. my question is whats the best way to detect near the well which is about 5 ft deep and 5 feet wide. i appreciate any help as im new to the hobby. i usually do the local beaches, never hit the woods hard yet. thanks alot in advance. al from ny

By saying near the well, I'm presuming you don't mean searching in the well.

I can't see how or why you'd need to search any differently there as opposed to anywhere else in the yard.

Is there a depression around the well you're concerned about?

no depresion, just rock walls. surrounding the well. the well sits on the side of a ridge about 40 feet from a nice moving stream.
thanks

Can't help much Old timers didn't carry much money around the homestead with them. Look for a large tree nearby that someone may have rested under while drinking water.
PS: I wouldn't reall call Monticello upstate!

I remember when I moved from Westchester County to Dutchess County my coworkers from there,
and the City, thought I had moved to the country. :laughing9:
