I found this yesterday out walking with the dog. After the rainstorms its very cool out. Its the third Canadian large cent I've found. The date is gone, oh well. By the face you can tell its 1858 or 59. The older is version nicer in my opinion. No US large cents for me.. to old for here. I must be hunting where the loggers were :) The mother of pearl button is unusual. The tie enamel clip is not gold. It's so nice to just get out! Happy Hunting! I hope you get out and find something!

Nice going on the young head Vickie LC. Looking at the 18 it almost looks like a large 0 right of the 8 which is not possible. But it's strange that the 18 is so pronounced and then the 58/59 is worn off completely. It would almost appear it might of been a mint error to begin with, or altered. Cool copper!

Thanks for the posts. It must have been run over early on. There is a bump that sticks out where the date is and it looks like it was polished off. To bad, I will have to wait for that minty 1858. It does look like a large 8 or 0 in the background. We had a lot of rain yesterday and I hope to get back out.

pretty awesome find, I like to call it "character" on something from the past. I always wonder how many hands a coin has gone through and what it has been part of. congrats

There's a few ghost hunters I have met. I tell them its quite a thrill to be the first to pick something up after 100+ years. It is fun to think about where the items have been.

It's always great finding something so old! I haven't found anything quite as old as the 1800s yet. :icon_thumright:
