Folks,
You just never know what you'll find when hunting coins. This week's take is a case in point. I worked four boxes, and hit up a teller I know. The teller gave me all she had -- 1 40% dated 1969-D.
The boxes had a great variety. The first two boxes were unremarkable, except that I got my second British Large Penny -- another King George the IV dated 1939 and an unusual counter-stamped clad Kennedy. Box three picked-up, and box four had the real treat. I got the top layer of box four ($200) worked and in the base layer saw an ender that just didn't look right. Closer inspection revealed another British Large Penny with the date -- 1862. She's worn, but impressive nonetheless! The 1862 date makes this the oldest coin I've gotten while Coin Roll Hunting.
The numbers and pics follow.
Box 1: 1x 90% (1952 Franklin) and a Counter-stamped "R" 1972 clad Kennedy, along with a 1939 King George the IV British large Penny.
Box 2: 2x 40% (2x 1968-D). On a break my daughter to lunch I hit a bank and the teller gave me her only Half -- 1969-D. Score!
Box 3: 2x 40% (1x 1963-D and 1x 1964); and 6x 40% -- a nice spread representing every year but 1970 (1x 1965, 1x 1966, 2x 1967, 1x 1968-D, and 1x 1969-D).
Box 4: 7x 40% (2x 1966, 2x 1967, 3x 1968-D). Box 4 also gave up the 1862 British Penny and a beat-up Bicentennial "S-Mint" impaired clad proof.
All-in-all, quite a nice hunt. It represents an improvement over last week's hunt, and I'm quite pleased with the variety of coin.
I wish you all well. Happy hunting.
