So, I was organizing my safe today and stumbled upon this long-forgotten gem. This was most likely purchased by my great-great-uncle, who lived to nearly ninety and was obsessed with novelty purchases. He loved Fingerhut, to give you a reference point....

It seems to be an actual Morgan dollar, in amazing condition, no less. The box it came in would lead one to believe it's gold plated. I cannot confirm or deny this, as I have no acid kit and it is not marked anywhere. The chain/bezel ensemble is truly garbage, however. I'm not kidding when I say I could see someone with diamond-encrusted teeth wearing this in a rap video. It is a sight to behold, and I'll spare you the photos of me wearing it!:laughing7:

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...ugly to you but others may think differently.Anyway,if it's real that's a nice chunk of gold.

It doesn't exactly look like it reeks of quality but the coin looks real...ruined from plating, but real.

Yew, picturing this around the thick neck of a hairy guy in a leisure suit with his four shirt buttons undone. Pausing and shuddering. Anyway, it is likely plated and likely not a real Morgan, I am sure it would be marked otherwise and the chain would be gold as well. Have you tried a magnet on it.

It's certainly a real Morgan. They made over 44 million of them dated 1921. It's just a cheesy novelty thing. I'm sure my uncle saw it on an infomercial, or something. At Susan's suggestion, I did check it with a magnet. The chain is just slightly magnetic, and the coin, not at all. If I didn't have a little bit of bizarre sentimental attachment to it for my late uncle's sake, I'd probably pry the coin out of the bezel and inspect it further.

Well, The Morgan would only be worth melt value anyway. Looks heavily polished or cleaned, I don't see any mint luster, probably someone had some steel wool and a lot of time on there hands. It is also a 1921, which is not worth very much even in good condition. No reason to fake the Morgan dollar, probably worth under $15.

I wear a 34 and I had the same idea, but alas, this stunning specimen shall only be worn upon the waist of Callista Flockhart.
