I had a quick hour of huntin. So I took my 12 year old nephew along. One detector, two shovels. So I says you dig when I get a good signal. After a few iron signals and few quarters I get a nice VDI 92 on the DFX. 7" down get this Merc.

Before I get a chance to clean I told him. "Now the odds are small but if this is a 1916D, I'll split it with you." His eyes got huge.

Cleaned it off and it was a 1917D!!

Damn. What are the chances!!! Previous merc's have always been in the 40's. Very proud of my silver dime. Can't wait to go back. Perhaps tomorrow. Also dug the Silver Moose the other day from the same field.

Thanks for lookin,
Fishstank

Great find...love the heart-racing associated with a possible '16D!. A 92 VDI tells me there's more in the hole than a single merc--was there anything else there?

Gossage,

Not that I could tell. Although the ground was very wet. We had a very rainy xmas. I'll check it again and give more pics.
Thanks for looking.
