Wow, a second post from me... got to get out hunting some more.

Anyway yesterday (Sunday) it was such nice weather here I went on my bike to my vegetable garden and on the way passed a building site (house). It looked interesting so after working in the garden I went home, picked up a MD and returned. Well there was almost nothing there except pieces and bits of old junk, until I got a pretty large signal. That was this brooch (I had found another long ago with the same style). Still have to see what the portray is all about, I know I have seen it here someplace. Its not so old at all I think...but I thought you all might like to see it....

Description: Brooch
Size: 53x37 mm
Material: bronze?
Mass: 15.5 gram

I would be very pleased with that, has some sort of 17th Century battle scene. Looks Victorian (maybe) :-\

I Cru, well I am pleased compared to what I found on the other site for sure. I will ask around to what it is, I have seen that scene someplace but just don't remember where...

Reminds me of a Rembrant picture. Muster of the night watch.
Indeed. In fact, here's a link to a quite similar ( although not identical) silver or silver-plated brooch which replicates that painting:

Hi PBK, it sure does look like that one for sure. After seeing it I looked at the brooch that I found and see now that it is not bronze, but a silvery type of metal, if silver I don't know, but the weight is pretty heavy for something this size. It came clean out of the dark wet ground (I guess from about 1.5 meters deep or so) and I only had to get the mud off. Bronze almost never comes out of the ground so clean, and I can see a white metal. Have to ask around. Thanks for the link.

Found a picture of the scene, and it is the Rembrant's nightwatch:

Thanks guys/girls for you great comments, I was surprised that you all found it a good find. I didn't even have it in my #1 trophy case, I had put it upstairs in #3. Maybe I will move it to #1 now. Thanks again.

Well you should know! (Silver Searcher). Its hard to tell what is silver and what isn't. I though there were kits that you can buy that tell you, but I have to look around and see if I can find one... Thanks for you comment!

I use bleach on my Silver Coins, it blackens them, but does no harm to Silver :read2: perhaps you could try that on a small area of your brooch.

Would never say, "only", to a brooch like that. Kudos!
