The ground is still mostly frozen solid but i went to a old field to give it a go with the detector. Looks like warmer temps on the way soon. First was a eyeball find sitting on a large flat rock with some broken glass. It was a small police uniform dome button. I found a nice exact bigger one in the past that was in great shape. This one is still complete but squished in at the back. Second button i fought hard for in the frozen ground. It was about two feet in the field from the police button on the rock. I don't know if the letters represent anything or if its very old but at least i managed to dig out something. Thanks for looking! [emoji106]

I don't recall ever seeing the smaller police button before...

also, it would be interesting to find out about the other one too, S A M P, or any other combination of those letters must stand for something

the construction of the button doesn't scream old to me, something from the last century perhaps

I agree with the golden button doesn't seem to be super old. I was surprised how little the "P" button was. I just assumed police button because of the look compared to the large ones! πŸ€”

You may have found a blazer button for that agency.
Congrats on getting out.

Thanks. If it is then not old but something different like that once in awhile is fine with me. Ive never heard of them before and probably not common button up here in nova scotia because its a American agency is it not?

Actually, prior to 1980, each branch of the military handled it's own mail. Then, that service was consolidated into one with the U.S. Army charged with the responsibility of delivering mail to military members and their families.
I couldn't match the button you found but it does match the abbreviated Service and they do have uniforms.
