it seems that this has currently been habit of our socalled "representatives" lately! lie to get into office and then lie about what their real intentions are ! grab the money / benefits / stuff their pockets full of "free stuff" (bribes) and then go to jail (hopefully)! personnaly , id like to see these "moochies" have to give up "their" lifetime health care for them AND their familys and require them to suck it up and apply for Obamacare like they force fed us! plus why in the world should "we" pay them their salary for LIFE after they get out of office? most of them are rich lawyers anyway! plus they allowed their staff to be exempt from being required to have obamacare! who are they anyway to force fed us and exempt themselves! Kinda AMBIGUOUS!

kitzhaber's been a good governor, compared to others we could of had, he has just allows his better judgement to be clouded by a little bit of tale and inputs his feelings in to laws that effect many other people who don't have the same feelings/ideas rather than being "a voice of the people" and doing what is needed

Well I'm not up on Oregon politics so I can't form a valid opinion on this guy and his wife. What I want to know is when the heck are these politico types going to learn that lying is not in their best interest. They're going to get caught in time. This is even more true today thanks to the internet and access to records through it. These people always seem to forget that they are supposed to be serving the people, not themselves. I have a feeling that as long as only those with tons of money can afford to run for these offices, this kind of stuff is going to keep happening. Get it back to where the common man can run and we'd be taking a big step towards getting back to a government that is once again run by "We the People".

They really should limit how much can be contributed or spent in an election.......take the money out of the problem. What kind of person spends millions of dollars to get a job that pays way less unless they know it'll be made up other ways...........

Governor Kitzhaber has been a proponent of the EPA (DEQ) and DSL limited dredge permit law(s). He has always supported "green" concepts and is not a proponent of utilizing Oregon's natural resources unless they are wind or solar. I can attest to the fact that he is not a proponent of Oregon's Constitution.....as he ratified the Native American Casinos inter-governmental agreements, when the State Constitution specifically says "there shall be NO Casinos in Oregon". When people fought the Gov over the Casino issue he drug them through the State Courts until they ran out of money to fight. Similar to what the anti dredge crowd has done with the dredging issue in Calif. When one looks at the States authority over water and even the "Anti Dredge Bill" (SB 838) recommendations by the State's Legal Dept. he avoids their "no it should not be legal opinion" to stop/halt/interfere with dredging on Federal Lands. One can read this for yourself here: http://www.oregon.gov/dsl/PERMITS/docs/SB 838 Appendices A, B and C.pdf

He is however a well spoken man. No alternative has been presented to win an election over him. I guess we should look and see who would replace him. As the "Oregonian Newspaper" is very liberal in the press and supports having the Governor resign.

When one studies the shenanigans of the political agenda in Oregon to halt/adversely impact/control dredging, on Federal Lands open to mineral entry in Oregon, it appears obvious that the Governor is a stout proponent of the anti dredge crowd.

It would be nice to have a Governor who would at least be open to logic and a true scientific approach. A Governor who at least listens! If you were to talk to, or read the info of those dredge advocates who were able to be a part of, and testify, at the pre SB 838 meetings/hearings you will find that the whole process was manipulated to favor the Governors anti dredging desire.

Under President Clinton's administration, the BLM was asked to come up with a 10 year harvest plan for Oregon. President Clinton even came to Oregon to meet with Gov Kitzhaber to discuss the need to re-establish a balanced approach to the harvest of timber off of Public Lands administered by both the BLM and USFS.

Both the USFS and BLM came up with a very conservative/moderate harvest plans that would have generated 150 million dollars in Federal revenue annually to Oregon. Most of that revenue would have gone to Oregon's schools. The Gov shot it down and said it was not enough money to worry about...as it would not solve the school funding shortage. So he denounced the plan......TRUE STORY! We used to have 7 mills on our drainage and a huge pulp paper mill 20 miles to the south. Today we have none/zero. Our schools are struggling to even buy text books.

Governor Kitzhaber and natural resource usage/utilization (which Oregon has in abundance) are simply not on the same page. Take a look at the nickel mine proposal on the Upper Smith River. No support from our Congressman or our Governor.

Centralized, 'representative' 'democracy' has become as much a facade as party politics.

IMO they are both headed to the fossil bone yard. Though I'll be a fossil myself before it happens!

Secure digital voting. Call it the Decentralized Digital Democracy Movement if you will.

The legislative process, from city council to federal congress, all gets replaced by that "like" button on the right side of the page, L 0 L. Crickets.....

I've thought the same thing for a long time Specks. Maybe even in more detail. The main problem would be security. How many times have you heard of some big company being hacked and thousands of peoples info being stolen? If, and I do mean IF the security problems could be taken care of then we might see it happen. They could have it so your voter registration card is your "Key" and only one vote on/for any issue or candidate is allowed per card. This would make it much easier to cast your vote as you could do it from any computer instead of having to go to a poll location and wait in line.

The other most important change we need to see in politics is to get the cost of running for an office down to a point where the common man can afford to run. As long as we have it so only the rich can run, only the rich are going to be the ones in charge. The rich don't have all the answers and by keeping the common people out of office, we will never have a true voice in our country's government. The rich are of course going to look out for themselves 99.9% of the time. The common people of our country have been getting the shaft form them for years now and many of them have a lot better ideas on how to take care of our problems using common sense than most of the rich idiots we've been stuck with have had.

Next, we need to reign in the special interest lobbyists that keep lining the pockets of those in office to buy their votes. Special interest groups and big business lobbies have been buying the votes of our elected officials to their benefit for decades. These officials were elected by the people to represent the people, not special interests and big business. If we get the lobbyists out of politics the people will once again have a level playing field so our will is done not theirs. If they want to lobby, they should be stating their case to the people, NOT our representatives and let the people tell the elected officials how to vote.

There should be a "dishonorable discharge" for corrupt politicians, too. Strip them of everything....... EVERYTHING! Make an example of one or 17, the rest (if they got brains) will fall in line.

Discussion is always good, but no, you haven't.

Decentralized- there are no big databases to hack or central servers to instal malicious code on. Google maidsafe, something similar.

User 'authenticity' verified by multi-factor, real time, biometrics, all done client side. Your personal electronic devices will be able to tell 'if it's really you' better than your spouse 0o.

Blockchain will log the votes from assigned/registered public key, all on public ledger someone can see that you, 'xy35z....' voted on issue '8w7yf' revision #25, 1 time. No one knows what that vote was or the name of the voter who cast it.

All the tech isn't quite here yet, most of the tech is here now, 5-10 more years at very very most.

I'm talking about real, raw democracy here. No government will cede this kind of power to 'its people' willingly. This will have to be part of America 2.0 I'm afraid.

Ahh ok I see what you're talking about now. I'm not up on all the newest tech stuff anymore. I used to try to stay up on it but it was growing so fast and in so many directions I couldn't keep up anymore.

America 2.0 may be hitting sooner than you think. Especially if the politicos don't get over that bad case of rectal/cranial inversion they've got. Even the "Sheeple" are getting fed up with their lies. If they're getting fed up, you know the situation is bad.

Apologies for going off topic. I don't see how any miner or public land user wouldn't be frustrated by these situations. Just throwing out my .02

I'm no techie here either, I know what you mean. Anyone who is, is laughing and cringing at my examples.

"I must also say that it is deeply troubling to me to realize that we have come to a place in the history of this great state of ours where a person can be charged, tried, convicted and sentenced by the media with no due process and no independent verification of the allegations involved"

Had to re-read that, I thought he was talking about sb838. Funny how that works. It appears that, like gold, irony is where you find it.

Oh Come on, it's not that bad spacecowboy. Just think of it as a moratorium on your governorship while they study the effects of your tenure.

Never met the guy, hes probably ok as a person. Don't care for his 'politics' though.

I guess that's it. Nothin else I could think of to say to him except:

Cool story bro, so long and thanks for all the fish!
