That is a sweet find. Is it silver? Do you have a pic of the back side of the base? Looks to me like a mirror compact maybe? Does it look like there should be something attached to the back? Whatever it is, it is definitely something special.

Definitely from the mid-late 1800's. Perhaps the front part of a locket. :thumbsup:

That is a sweet find. Is it silver? Do you have a pic of the back side of the base? Looks to me like a mirror compact maybe? Does it look like there should be something attached to the back? Whatever it is, it is definitely something special.

Here is a pic of reverse side. It's non-ferrous but feels more like silver plate except for where monogram is located.

Is it approximately 2 inches in diameter ? I think the guess of a pipe top is a good one , the hinge plus open work seems
to indicate partial containment with air flow - Nice Find .
