My wife and I have never been metal detecting before as a team. I scored a Scorpion Gold Stinger on Craigslist and she was quite pleased to go give it a try with me.

Probably not ideal as our first detector...but it was a bargain and works great. I do a little gold prospecting on the side so I figured why the hell not.

This was our first find with it...perhaps military...idk. She has it placed under her computer monitor...so pretty sure she liked going.

You've dug up a .50 cal boattail round, most likely military in origin and fired from a M2 Browning machine gun. Big load of ouch. Congrats on your first find, and good luck in your future hunts.

Sweet...thanks for the knowledge! She is ready to go again tomorrow....somewhere new she says.

This was out near Picketwire and Vogel canyon in east Colorado. Not aware of any recent military stuff there since they do dinosaur tracks tours and camping out there....perhaps WW2 as stated above.
