Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Hello all,,,
Got out for about an hour this morning. Temp was showing 42 degrees, but it felt like 24 :(
Managed to find a nice pewter? buckle. It measures about 3-1/8" x 2-3/16".

Also, found somekind of small copper shoot? It measures 2-3/4" x 2-3/8" and has the word, " Majestic " inscribed across the bottom. Not sure what it was used for but it looks like it was mounted to something and had a small square slot for you to drop something/things into? beats me... I was thinking about mounting it to top of a wooded box and use it to drop my clad into...

Hope ya all have a Very Merry Christmas, & a Happy new year!
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Looks like a decorative stand..the bottom that holds some kind of a pole. Like to a gum ball machine??

Leon,

nice finds.

Don't think an ashtray. Holes near the sides.

The center hole, is that the way it once was
or is that damage?

Again, nice finds, glad you got out.

have a good un.........

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Great buckle Leon!! :)

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Very nice buckle. Pewter is pliable, can you bend the buckle by hand? And pewter doesn't shine, it's dull and known as the poor man's silver. Does the buckle shine?

The other thing is small and almost square and seems to be made from a single, thin sheet of copper. And appears to have been screwed or nailed onto something else. It's decorated, and a brand name of "Majestic" is embossed onto it. (Sorry, just thinking out loud) Hmmm, some household utilitarian thing is my guess, but have no idea what it was used on. A top for a clad bank sounds like a good new life for the thing. Maybe it was used for putting used wooden matches into?????

Leon, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too!

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

That buckle looks to be too shiny for pewter, maybe silver? Nice finds and HH, Mike

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

I think your Majestic item had something to do with old Majestic Sewing machines.....

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

interesting relics leon.

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Wow, I've found several buckles but none as pretty as that one. I'm leaning towards silver possibly. Doesn't really look Pewter.

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Thanks all,,,
After closer inspection of the buckle, ( getting out my Mr. Magoo glasses ), I could see that the buckle seems to be made of copper, with a silver plating... I guess that's the reason for the somewhat green patina on it...

The other piece still has me stumped, can't even come up with a half baked idea of what it was used for...
It is made from thin copper and has holes on all four corners, with a small bolt still stuck in one of them. I thought it was a small nail until looking at it with the magical glasses... ;D

Sherman,,, It is damaged, it has been somewhat flatend out. The edges of the center go down at about a 45 degree angle, and what should have been a square hole in the center was originally a little over an inch across.
I also found some other script on the backside that reads, " A. E. CO. " on one side, and on the other it reads, " UTICA. N. Y.

I did a Google and found a few sites dealing with copper shingles, but I can't see this piece, being so decorative, being up on a roof?

Again, thanks for all the comments...
Good luck, & Happy hunting to all...

Re: Oval Buckle, & a What's it?

Does it say UTACA NY or UTICA NY?
There was a Majestic theater in Utica NY in the early 1900's...
Good luck and keep us posted.

It does say UTICA NY,,, thanks for pointing that out...

Thanks for the ID, debistogs, Not exactly the same, but I think your right about it... That would explain the small point in the center of the hole. It was probably used to point at the station dial...
Thanks again all,,,
Leon
