Thanks Dobie.

This story was by Francis X Sculley
the Pamphlet it is out of has no Copyrite or date
& I'm not sure what years Mr. Sculley wrote.
So when he says Treasure hunting is allowed.
it may now be it WAS allowed. or maby it's by eye sight only.

Keep us updated.

Metal detecting used to be allowed. I don't think you'll be able to now. I know a member in our MD club hunted there years ago but recently was told no. Give a try dobie. Maybe they would let a group of us to detect ???

I grew up in Blockville and went to school in Panama. I did detect the old ballfield at Panama Rocks, but that's all they'd allow me to do. That was around 1980. The last I knew, it wasn't allowed anymore. If you are in the Jamestown Club, ask Les Woll about detecting there. He got in back in the 1970's and found a lot of stuff. I did find some wheaties and a very worn Spanish 1/2 Reale on the old ballfield. Not much stuff, so I know that it had been done in the past.
When I was in 4th grade (at Ashville Elementary), the school took the whole class to Panama Rocks for an overnight. We slept in the big hall, with the girls on one side and the boys on the other. We had a big bonfire in the evening. I doubt they do that anymore.

for those who knew Les Woll from the Jamestown area - Les was one of the original detectorist in the areas of western NY - passed away Oct.18,2007. Les is now detecting on the gold streets in heaven. We will remember and miss him dearly.

I had heard that Les was sick about a year ago. I was one of those that detected with Les (and Irwin) 30 years ago. We used to hit all of the good spots in and around Jamestown. I will always remember the fun times we had and everything that he taught me. He used to tell me "I'd rather detect where a million people have been over the last 100 years than where a million people have been over the last year". Now I wish that I'd called him when I was in town earlier in the year.
