Panning around old Mariposa pit mine

Hey all!
We own 152 acres in Bootjack, Ca near Mariposa. We had a pit mine from the gold rush days on our property that the Chinese dug following a vein. We had to bulldoze it for safety some years ago. All around the mine site is gravelly red dirt(clay) with lots of quartz in it. Would it be worth it to pan the area? It's near our ranch house so we'd run water down to the site. We're new at this.

Thanks-
MoGrill

If it was MY PROPERTY? Darn right I would at least pan all that I could around that place! Back in the gold rush days, they didn't have the technology we have today and most likely threw some out that wasn't seen very good, or got washed out.

Chances are if you find a little gold, there could be more there as well.

If things pan out well (pun intended) it might be worth getting a small crusher and run it's output across a shaker table and get all you can out of that spot.
