Lots of parks require permits but it is hard to know. Don't ever call anyone on the phone. Look up park ordinances on the web and go to the parks and look for signs. If it looks clear, go detect. If you see park workers, always wave and say Hi. Do not leave holes, and always pick up the trash you dig up.
