Back at the end of September I stumbled upon a garden project in process behind one of the local public schools here in Portland.
Pavement that had been in place since the 1950s had been removed for a community garden project, and I happened to get there the day after they finished removing the asphalt and the gravel underneath it.
I hunted this site as often as I could without interfering with my regular schedule, the school hours, the school's after school activities, the garden project workers, rain, and darkness. Which meant that unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time and I had to leave a lot of items there. Mostly just large deep items--you know, like jars full of old coins.
It was a fun hunt though, and I got one good grid in before they brought in tons of topsoil.
