That area is included in the new "sage grouse recovery area". Closed to mineral entry. I have no idea if that means you can't even prospect, or if it only means you can't file a claim, or extract minerals. Prior claims are excluded. One interesting tidbit about the Black Pine District is the geologists determined that that whole mountain had, at one point, overlain the City of Rocks formation to the west. They claim that as the Cof R formation rose, the BP area slid to it's present location. They said they didn't know if the gold occurred afterwards, or if it was present before the mountain was relocated.
