that really depends on what date you consider the united states to be the united states---that is often debated quite a bit ---and who the "first" president was is also "debated" alot ---by the way its cent not penny ---Ivan

Congrats Ivan

LOL I was hoping a few folks would not figure it out for a while.

Actually the US has NEVER minted a penny.
The name cent comes from the unit of denomination described by the coin. One Cent equals one hundredth of one dollar.
All of them from the beginning have been cents. Not pennys

The use of a separate monetary system was decided by the Continental condress when we were at war with Britain, in an effort to achieve total separation. and not use the English system.

Man, those guys must have relay been Pissed.

I have to mention that since the 1980's the U.S. Mint has, on occasion, used the word "penny" in its official literature. The word "penny" is not official, but even the Mint realizes how ubiquitous the term has become.

Think more current , they still make these and we over look them all the time

The Two dollar bill has Ben Franklin on it. Although he is considered a Founding Father,
He was never president.

The one cent coin has always featured a bust of Lady Liberty Except for the Fugio Cent which featured a statement saying "Mind Your Business"

The model for lady liberty was at one time rumored to have been either Martha or George Washington, but that hasn't ever been confirmed.

The two dollar bill has Thomas Jefferson, not Ben Franklin.

Sorry I will stand corrected,

( that's what happens when I try to crunch three sets of numbers at the same time)

The 100 dollar bill is the smallest current paper currency without a president.
It has Ben Franklin on it. At Least I got him right

Now I am sure I have to at least recheck all the other stuff I was doing.
Sorry again guys.

Sorry gotcha again, Alexander Hamilton is on the $10 bill. He would be the current smallest denomination non president!
