technically the sides of the road are owned by
either the city or the state.

some will tell you you need Permission to hunt
from the city or state.
(You won't get permission from the state don't
waste your time asking them)
(Some cities will give permission, but it's rare)

and even if they do

Some Homeowners who take care of it,
Consider it theirs or at least their Responsability.

& Can get Psycho/anal over it.

I Know no real answer .

but then again you said

just wanted to know for i go out and get myself shot

So.

* if a landowner says it's theirs
Consider it theirs. Never argue.
You'll never convince them otherwise,
and the Powers that be will most likely
let them win.

Jeff gives a pretty good answer. Technically, it's owned by the municipality, or county, or state, or whatever public entity has that roadside. So technically, yes, you'd be able to detect, as long as you're not a nuisance or breaking a law in some other way (ie.: leaving a mess, etc....).

However, the homeowner is usually tasked with mowing it, watering it, etc... So you can see the psychological dilemma ::) Just go at off-times, when busy-bodies aren't present (ie.: mid-days when people are at work, etc...)/ :hello:

Gotta be a really rich detecting area though. I'd have to consider detecting it and coming back stealth mode to recover the targets. You could probably find most with a Pistol Probe and a trowel, after you marked the spots with a MD, say with a dull penny. What could they do if you were confronted? Run you off is all.

"its easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission". Actually though, it is property you pay taxes on, and should be open.
