Hi all. Just found this site a couple of weeks ago and love looking at all of the artifacts.
I found this at our farm in north central piedmont in NC. The land has lots of chert and quartz on it. If I was near a river I wouldn't have given it a second look but it appeared out of place in the field. I have found a couple of arrowheads on the property but this one has me stumped. Any thoughts? Thanks

Welcome to T-Net ncnurseryman. Unfortunately, I don't see any evidence that was ever altered or used by man so I say it's just a natural stone. Show us some of your Points though. We'd definitely like to see them.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the feedback though. Here is a pic of the first point I found. It was a surface find on a grown up tobacco field. It was laying in a deer trail. The second one is at my office, I will get a pic of that one later. They are very different. The other one is shorter, wider and is tan colored chert. Thanks

Looks like a heavily patinated Savannah River point.
Here is it's brother.

Gatorboy,

you are right, they do look alike. I am just now seeing the pic you posted since I just got on the computer. too often the photos don't load up on the phone. Looks like you got a good collection going on there. I have two so far. Ha.

That's one more than I had when I found my first.. There will be more for you.
Eventually you will probably find a hot spot and quickly add them up.
P.S... I know exactly what you mean about the phone sometimes I just give up.

Here is a pic of the second one i found. I actually discovered it a few days after digging a post hole. I must have unearthed it.

I'm actually having a problem to get the photos to come up right now..I can see the small thumbnails though..that may be a Morrow Mountain varrient (round base) ..or Guilford stemmed.
If it is chert and found in the Piedmont your in a very good spot.
If I were you I would widen that post hole quite a bit.

I believe its chert. There is tons of it around here. I find lots of the grey type. I'll post a pic. Yes I'm in the piedmont, Durham/person county area. I never thought about digging the hole out. I just might do that.

I can't tell from my phone if it loaded the pic. I'll try again.

These are a couple I just picked up on your end of town. Notice how many field finds out that way have creek or river patina on them. In looking at google earth I can see from red mt. Elevation drops drastically. I think many of these fields were under water at once. Flat river was much wider ice ages ago.

Nice. I haven't seen that type of rock of the larger piece but I find pieces like the tan chert but I don't know if they are anything. Like this one.
