well...bell pestles will have that shape, but they won't be so crude looking and the base will be smooth and even. lots and lots of rocks come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. But the main thing to consider is that the folk that made these things were skillful technicians with nothing but time on their hands. they made things right and with care and pride.
