Petrified animal jaw?

This petrified piece was found in a creek in Iowa several years ago! Sorry no ruler in the pic but it measures roughly 12" long 4"tall and 1.5"thick. A couple of days after I found it the peice started to
dry out and was sticky. I Put a sealer on it because I was afraid of it rotting. Back is identical to front.

Someone told me Its a shark jaw minus the teeth. Also it was found in the Mid-continent rift system
area that covered some of Iowa.

Someone out there know anything about this?
