Pianos have a large cast iron "harp" inside to which the wires are attached. Things like coins get dropped into the case, bottom and under the keys. If very old, the keys are ivory and needed by restorers. Lot of work to take apart, but with prices what they are, could be worth the effort.

Wonder what's wrong with the piano that warrants throwing out rather than repairing?

a friend took the top of her upright piano & used it as her mantle peice on her fireplace. the piano was in really bad shape, but the wood was still good enuf to use.
