I'm sure this topic has been covered, but any redundant help would be greatly appreciated. Two days ago, I couldn't even spell Kamcourder. So please, type slow.
I have, however, semi-educated myself abit today on the internet, as well as spoke with a Sony salesman at a local store.

Intended Use - filming my newborn daughter, home rehab project, coin and relic discoveries

Must haves:
Zoom/clarity function - ability to read the date on a coin
battery life in cold climate
still shots with good clarity
ability to erase in the field
HDD or Flash card
durability in rugged/dusty conditions

Would like to have:
lazer/light aiming/even eye glass aiming
editing software
wind muffling
ability to hook to side of head (without helmet)/easy removal
remote controls usable with gloves on
automated timed still shot capability

Currently leaning toward a Sony Handycam hdr-sr11. Great reviews with the exception of factory battery life, and lack of wind muffling capabilities.
Willing to spend upto $800ish (that's including accessories), but would greatly prefer staying under $500

Regards,
Jules

Sony make a real good camera along with canon and panasonic. I know how you feel, trying to pick out a camera with so many options out there. I researched for months back when I bought my camera. Ended up with the Panasonic PV-GS500. The best sight I found that helped me the most was CNET' http://reviews.cnet.com/. Let us know how you make out?
