Hello Again!

I had another major weekend of hunting earlier this month. On one day I hit an old picnic grove, and brought along my buddy Joe G.....He did real well -- he found three Mercs, a religious medal and a WW II-era military button, all in short order. I had a decent haul myself, snagging a Merc and two silver Washingtons, in addition to a few other finds. The Washingtons were in the same hole, no less. Now THAT was a signal!

The next day I drove out to the boonies and hit a really old school I'd been eyeing. Not great, but not terrible either: I ended up with a 1906 Indian Head, a really nice 1961 Washington, as well as a small toy metal cowboy hat, a harmonica reed, a fake gold chain, an old buckle, a key on a keychain, and some other whatsits and the like.

One of the finds is a large, long pointed hollow copper cone. I have NO idea what it is -- it almost looks like a socketed spear/javelin point or butt end to me, but who knows. I do know it is old -- I found it next to a massive old tree, about 8 inches down, completely wedged underneath gigantic tree roots. No one's been down there for a while. Any ideas what it might be?

Enjoy the pics!

Cheers and HH,
Brendan

Very nice. I noticed you don't have any nickles... Go back and dig those iffys. Maybe there is a 3 legged buff out there.

It's funny you should mention that -- the last time I hit the grove (last season) I found a 1936 Buffalo. (Not three-legged though.) It was my first Buff. Here's the pics:

That larger, sharp piece looks like it might be a javelin tip. :icon_scratch:

Right on. The one piece does resemble a javalin tip. I would check and see if there was any type of practise fields around there.

Probably. It's a school in a rural area surrounded by farm fields. I was envisioning someone throwing the thing, then getting it wedged under one of those tree roots, and it snapping off, where it remained until I dug it up....

On the copper tip.

I'm pretty sure it is the tip of a lighting rod used to protect buoldings from lighting. They cut copper tubing to lenght and these put on the top.

Thanks Jeff, that's VERY interesting. You could be totally right!
