Not exactly sure what this is, would also love to get a date on it if anyone could help.

Found southern England.

Thanks.[emoji106] 20210109_172925.jpg 20210109_172931.jpg

Can't help on the ID, but it's a neat little find. Maybe military pin in England ?

The function of this is easy, it's a mount that went on to leather.

The bit I'm struggling with is a date. It's at least 18th C, but 'may' go back into the Anglo-Saxon period. Here is a similar cross from that period (although a brooch, not mount):
https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/932908
I'm not very confident that its Saxon, only maybe 40%. If those black lines on the cross arms turn out to be traces of niello inserts then it's Saxon/Viking, but I can't tell from the photo.
It's a really nice piece and needs more research, I've not seen this type before.

I nearly fell off the sofa reading this, I'd love it to be really old but it's a nice find as you said either way.
I did look for hours online to try and find something similar but drew a blank.
Can you suggest where maybe a good place to go next as I really like to know the history of every find if possible.
Also while I'm bothering you could you cast your eye on these please Crusader... The spike thingy has remains of a black substance on one side. All 3 of these finds were dug in the same part of field.

As always your insights are appreciated.

Steve

Not a thimble and maybe had some gilding at some point. 20210111_060800.jpg 20210111_060805.jpg 20210111_060813.jpg 20210111_060818.jpg

Might need to take it to the FLO, but wait until all this mess is over with. They are only focusing on Treasure at the moment.
Can't see the spike thingy attachments?
The other item like a thimble is a broken part of an 18/19th C Fob Seal. It's missing the suspension loop & the stone insert that had the impression for the wax.
