I have collected early U.S. license plated since 1981 and have been metal detecting since 1997 . I have always wanted to find a license plate just to say I had , well today was the day :hello2: ! Well it's license plate related  . I have been hunting a school the last two weekends and only finding clad . lots of clad . This morning I found some keepers . The first two good finds were a couple of wheats , 1941 and 1942 . I also found a 1948 Jefferson nickel . Then I found a cool 1955 Hong Kong coin  . After all that I was in the middle of this old soccer field when I got a +74 at 8 inches . I could believe it , a 1948 California date tab from a 1947 license plate ! Finally something plate related ! I have posted a picture of the one from my collection so everyone could see what it looked like . Last good find was a tiny ring , #58 for the year . It looks gold but doesn't quite past the 10K test , maybe 8k ? Total clad was $10.09 . :icon_thumright:

That 48 tag is great!!! How did it attach to the 47 plate?.... My old plates have little tabs to adhere the tag to the plate, are there tabs on the reverse?

Hi Guys, just bought a bunch of early Pa. plates today, Nice 1912 and about 20 other early dates. many were toast but got many nice keepers. I don't collect these it was part of buying a great collection of fishing licenses and hunting licenses.
The fishing licenses are listed on ebay now under seller mtmcdonough45, check them out they are going through the roof. Hunting licenses start in 1921, they will be listed after the fishing pins are gone.....Joe McDonough

The tab has a small tab that wraps around the plate to keep in position .
