Planning a trip to Sedona AZ in summer would like to plan a day for some rockhounding within about an hours drive any ideas?

Sedona sits on the southern edge of the Coconino Plateau. The only rocks in Sedona are sandstone and limestone.

To find minerals worth collecting you will need to travel south. The nearest area to Sedona with interesting minerals are the copper mining districts on the other side of the Verde Valley. That's about an hour south. Try Jerome "ghost town" shopping and incredible views.
