#1 is a fossil turtle shell fragment, #2 is a fossil bone fragment, and #3 and #4 are rocks. Keep looking, you are in the right spot! Won't be long before you find some really good stuff. :icon_thumright:

Thank you! These are from her first time searching for fossils so she will be excited to know she has found something. Any advice on how to tell the difference between a rock and a fossil?

Of course! Fossils usually stand out in color, texture, and shape. On the treasure coast, fossils will usually be black or dark brown. Look for strange textures, like the shiny enamel of a tooth, or the grainy look of bone. Your fossil (#1) is a perfect example of what to look for. Also look for shape; a shark tooth is easy to recognize, but also look for unorthodox shapes. Just remember, when in doubt, pick it up. You are on the right track, keep looking; experience is the best teacher.
