How was the rock oriented? Was it laying down, standing on edge, etc.? Was the rock buried either partially or completely and most importantly, where was the metal piece found and was it buried?
Yes the rock was not far from a wet weather creek, lying on the ground near a fence line. It was not buried or partially. the metal was found on the other side or the backyard.
My guess is that the rock was a spade of some sort.
jed, i have seen this type of rock in jackson and wolfe counties of kentucky. the two i saw were used to mark land bounderies. notice how the bottom is broken off, like it was snapped off. being kicked or hit with something. one other i saw was where a grave site had been in carter county, but it was one piece of rock that had been cut to form two pointed head stones that look like arrowheads pointing upward. my guess is that two people were buried in one plot and the stones were pointing to heaven. one way to check the story on this would be to check the land records and grave location records. bardstown is a vary old town and there must be some record. or it was one bad mean indian.
