I got a box of pennies from my local bank. Out of the 13 wheats I found, one was an extremely shiny 1944S that looked as though it was in a proof set at one point. Obviously there were no proof sets in 1944 from San Francisco. I think this coin was polished and cleaned, what do you think???

Definitely polished. Not even using a Loupe, you can see the fine lines of polishing which cleans out the little tell-tale ware & tare of age. Just soak the coins in a light solution of DAWN & hot water overnight would clean the oily grime off the coins, tap dry with paper towel will do just fine.
