I have been looking for a beach machine and this old Minelab Sovereign XS2 came up. $145 USD .It looks barely used and has the original paperwork. I see they have a bit of a cult following? Any tips welcome.

It is basically turn on and go. Best of luck with your new beach machine!

Excellent beach machine. Just keep the box out of the water. As for tips, what machine are you coming from ? For some people the Sovereign's sounds will drive you batty at first. So the way I found to get used to it, for the beach, was to hunt in all-metal first (which is much more conventional sounding). Then cross-check any signal you get in disc. (to discern iron vs non-iron, low vs high, etc....). After a week or so of hunting like that, you'll find yourself able to hunt in straight disc. mode.

There is a guy on YouTube named Terry Shannon that has found a ton of awesome FL beach finds with that machine. Check him out.
