Possible Rev War button. Pewter with remaining design on face. What is it?

Dug this button today at an early site. By far my best pewter oldie button, but I can't seem to identify it.

Please help!

I think there is an "8" on the right half, and also an "8" on the bottom.

Assuming that it is in fact an A (and I agree it is), then I would first lean towards military. But I have looked, somewhat hurried, thru both my button books with no luck. If you can, try investigating British buttons from the late 1700s to the middle of the 1800s. Good luck, its a cool looking old button.
