I have dug every year wheat penny minted from 1909 to 1958 that includes 3 1943 steel one day i will clean them up and post them iam sure there is many key dates or semi keys so far i dug 157 wheats ,get out there and dig ! :thumbsup: Dd60

im seeing a D as well, but i do have some thick goggles, also known as BCG's!!!

Nova am I seeing things or is there a "d" below that "s" ?

Never noticed the D indentation until you said something.

Two of my three best Wheaties, one of two 1909-S's I've dug, and a 1914-D that still haunts me in my sleep. The soil out here seems to really screw with older pennies.

Yep. Sorry I should have said 1909-S VDB's, both. First one dug on April Fool's Day, 2002, second a couple of years later. Both are in similar corroded state.
