Iron Patch told me that I should start a post about this button. I dug this one in 2007 at a Colonial site. I remember getting a very low reading and looked down to see this beautifully designed/etched tombac button on the ground. It is my most interesting button, considering someone in the 18th century was bored and etched a horse design on his button. :dontknow:

Post your favorite tombac button on this thread!

Kirk :hello:

Good thread, so many to choose from, but the only animal type was found by Dad. I got the reverse name button, infact I've had 2 small ones & 2 larges ones all in different fields & several miles apart :icon_scratch:

I have three animal tombacs like that, two the same I believe. Pretty uncommon to find a tombac with something other than the typical designs. There's no doubt the one with the writing is a rare find.

The only reason it's my favorite is because I haven't dug too many with design. Hand etched.

I have 4 that I would consider top notch, at least top notch for all I have found. The 2nd is actually much better than the picture, probably as good of condition as you could ever hope for with one of these.
