post your sinkers/net weights

I think it will be interesting to see the different styles of what different parts of the country refer to as sinkers or net weights. And help with I.d. for future T-net searches. Here is a few fla. Net weights.

Got a few not packed up that are kinda recent. Some are hard to tell but they are mostly from the same sight. The ones that aren't drilled are notched 3 places on every single one. A large flake one one side a smaller one on opposite side and a little on on top edge. The drilled ones are both from the same small rock bar where we find lots of artifacts. Supposedly a local hunter found a bunch all together in a 5 ft area on the same stretch of gravel.

At a stream mouth into the river a county away. They found a canoe eroding from the mud after a hurricane. It was many years ago. But can u imagine

Dude..I'm in St. Lucie where are you? They found a couple the same way here. I also used to step over one that was all grown in with roots near Payne's prarrie up near Gainesville.

I'm in Maryland. I hunt a lot along the Chesapeake. The canoe was found in upper Maryland near the line by Delawar. I think it was north east river.

At the time, did you realize what you were stepping over? I wander how much nice stuff I step over.?.? More than I pick up, I'm pretty sure of that. :-(

Yeah We knew it was there for years.It was shown to my friend and I by a man who hunted the area for fourty years. It wasn't going anywhere. It was about twelve feet long and was pretty much part of the forest floor.

Kind of spooky if you think about it. I wouldn't be able to sleep until I saw if bones or remnants of man were under it. That is cool. 12 foot canoe, man, they went down rough waters on those hunks of junks too!

They had to go up the rough water in them too. I think of the river I hunt and I definetly wouldn't want to paddle up that for any large distance. I would think an actual preserved canoe would be the best center piece of a collection that you could get.

I would say a canoe would be "the mother load" I would retire after I drug it up to my room! Lol. I would just sit in it. All I would do. I almost got killed rafting the Gauley River in west VA. No more. I have mad respect for anyone that could go that river on a home made canoe today. Just to think, the natives of that time did it almost daily. I bet the Gauley has canoes in it, if it hasn't pulverized them.

You got us off!! Ok I'm ready, back on track. Do you think the last one I posted is a sinker? Looks similar to your concave sided sinkers. One side shows scaring in line with the notches. Their is not a lot of indication of tooling, other than the notches . They are not jagged but, rather uniformed .

It was found on the Roanoke River basin which is Mayo lake now. Was called Mayo Creek. It is coincidental that I found it today, as this thread just came about . I had never seen a sinker that wasn't grooved. Therefore, I didn't know what I had, until I looked at your pics. Next time I go to that spot, I'll look a tad more specifically for this artifact. To answer you, being that I'm on the basin of a river that was traveled by the lost colony and have found many points as well as agri. Tools, I would have to say, yes , more are there.
