I'd be willing to take a SWAG at that, but I'm curious about the color balance in the photo. It seems a bit off.

Admittedly the corrosion is different in western WA. We get tons of green crud, occasional brown crud, a bit of blue crud and a lot of coins stained deeply red (including cu-ni coins, which that shouldn't even happen to), but that buff is looking weird. Was something spilled on it at some point?

I may have said too much. I'd like to know what Don thinks.

My guess would be the middle piece.

your Going for a trick Question ?

it is a Trick Question but your wrong.

all 3 were dug and come out pretty much as is.
The copper on the one far left may have darkened.
I seem to remember them looking like new Pennies
only without the shine when they first hit the air.
yes the Buffalo looked like that also.

in contrast every silver coin looked like blackened clad.

they were all dug in a drained lake where the mud was probably oxygen free.

Oh & the green crud. I think it grew after I put it in a Coin holder

You're cheating. Coins coming out of a fresh water lake or salt water are a whole different animal. The real answer to your question is that none of them have spent time underground, they've spent time under water. You lied :)

LOL Fresh water but 6 to 8" under Mud.
mud is ground to me :laughing7: possibly Oxygen free , But ground all the same.
it was Dry Or close to it when I dug them.
I was able to walk on it by then.

The creek that feeds the lake flows through Farm Fields.
I do wonder if there were Chemicals involved.
I never used gloves till after a few weeks at this place.
my hands were like Raw Meat
after a few weeks
