Today i went back to the potatoe field wich brought some medieval finds as well as a butt cap from a frech M1816 pistol. I did 4 hours but again no silver, no other pistol parts. Managed a spectacle buckle and another nice 14th century buckle, usual brass and lead, some buttons, bell, coins starting around 1600 with a rolled one, 1/4 Stueber 1700s, Prussian 1800s 1,2 and 3 Pfennig, and some scrappies. Nice find was the small plate with two holes on the pic with the buckles. Dont know the english name for, may Cru can help out with that... :tongue3:

I think they are part of a shoulder scale.

You can't be far off the good stuff with finds like that. I had a similar day today.

My first guess was it came from the leather strap of a helmet, but shoulder scale is possible too. I hope the surrounding fields are harvested soon, so i can try the stubble....

Hi Lu. Good going! I don't see the usual pile of "driving rings". Has this field been picked over before?

Hi Tim! This is a true virgin site, close to the village and between the street and a gravel road. No chance for night hawks! Most driving bands are small ones hidden behind the fuze frags. 15 to 20 of them. The two big fuze parts add 3/4 pound brass for themself...

Thanks Papa bear! In fact it was 4 hours to clear the hot spot of the field. Last sundays hunt was just a try, on this hunt the field is cleaned pretty much. The rest of it can wait for a rainy day. We have got permission for too many new fields and it's harvest time so we try to have a look in every one of them to pick the better ones. I look forward to the neighbor field, wait for harvest there.
