My friend & I have seen hard times the last month. First we were chased out of the deep woods by crazy humidity & clouds of mosquitoes (laugh, we deserve it), then by heavy rains where you can't see your own hand in front of you. This is my half of our digs. We have winter coming up before long aswell so we better get our butts in gear! I'm so jealous of you southern folk who can creek walk. Lol. Our "creek" is a steep, rocky, raging, muddy river - so we gotta dig off to the side here. Not sure why my ancestors thought winter was ok...HH

Thanks Peaches :}. The stone/pottery ratio is heavily in the pottery's favor & that's fine with me. I like your finds too. I just want a nice piece with a good old fingerprint! Hh

You are very welcome sixeight! A pleasure sharing with fellow potteryheads. These are from a little North of Toronto.

The shards have patterns of basketry in them, made when the pots were made, still wet..., I guess.
I've seen some of that technique in a bit in the SW States pottery..........

Thank you. Makes sense. Ya some of the patterns look braided. I don't have any examples in these pics, but they also used something to make perfect circles. Squared patterns too. Animal images would be cool, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I would love to find some pottery with fingerprints too! I think we will eventually.

Found a partial print in the spring, but this is from a late fur trade site. Early to mid 1800's. The native pottery being centuries older might be a bit worn to preserve prints for the most part, but there must be some out there for us... I hope?

The pottery that I find a lot of it has had the design impressed into it by a weave or a pattern put on a paddle. I have never found what you would call a finger print, but have found lots of finger impressions . You have to look real close at your pieces, because it will look like a dent. You must be in a miden/trash dump to be finding all that broken pottery, you can also find points and other artifacts. If I were you I would screen my dirt you could be missing a lot of cool stuff.
