I haven't found too much this winter at all! Finally found a cellar hole in the woods near an old landing to check out. I haven't pulled out too much there either, but my last find of the day yesterday was this neat (though a little toasted) military button. I don't find many military things around here.

The last one is after cleaning. The button is about 3/4" in diameter.
It has "SCOVILLS" and seven stars on the back. Any ideas on the age?
I know it's nothing special, but it's the best thing I've found in a while. Lol!
Thanks, Chris

1820s-1830's. Some went into the 1840's. This button most likely was not civil war used but would have been mexican war or indian wars/removal era.

Thanks Dan, That's cool, and that's kind of what I was thinking.. just not sure. An online check of these, usually just says, "pre-CW". And I wasn't able to find one with the same backmark.
My first time there, I did find a toe tap/plate with an 1853 date stamped, and I know the river landing there goes back, at least, to the early nineteenth century. The whole area, much earlier.

Hey Charlie, actually I'm heading up in your direction over Easter. I'm going to Rhode Island the end of March, gotta see if there are any Tneter's up there who'll take a Mid-Atlantic relic hunter for a hunt or two! hehe

Thanks guys. I'm hoping it broke my recent dry spell! I like the domed buttons as well. Plus they seem to protect the little loop in the back, they almost always have it, bent, but intact.
We didn't have much of a military presence here on the Delmarva Peninsula. Some troops were staged around, but not many and not often. I think most of the military things I find are just relics from the returning soldiers. So, they are neat because they are rare here. Thanks for your responses and Happy Hunting !
