Pre-WWI Helmet (I think) Help Identify?

Hi. I was buying some stuff from a fellow collector that is looking to lighten his load. He offered me this helmet but neither of us have any clue what it is. If anyone can help identify a country or time period (or both!!!) that would be great. Just need something I can research off of. So far I think it may be an Italian open face sallet but don't know a time period or if I'm right.

It looks like it has age but someone cleaned it to death at some point. Also, the repair/patch is interesting. Any info anyone can provide to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Very cool. I would have bought it too. Don't know anything about it though.

doesnt look like military unless it was parade gear. the rivets almost look like mums on an arisaka rifle but they dont have enough petals. The crest or comb on it is not something Id think is in US military but I could be wrong.

Roman Helmet Replica, maybe made for a movie. Are you in a movie filming area by chance?

Hi and welcome to T-net

I have currently two theories:

A) The form esp. the long neckguard looks a bit like a cuirassier helmet. On the upper part on the ridge a plum or horsehair or feathers would be attached.

B) Its something japanese. Japanese samurai helmets had long neckguards and maybe this was carried over. Also the decorations look somewhat asian.

I did not find pics to prove or disapprove either.

In either case and if not a new replica or phantasy peise I would prel. date 19th century.

Thanks to everyone so much for your input. To answer questions:

I'm in NYC area. Yes there's plenty of movies made here but I don't think this would be the spot for a Roman epic!

It has age, doesn't seem like a replica but I'm not an expert (obviously)

Namxat, it does have a feather holder. I got a feather for it and it does come from the back and go over the top.

I guess it remains a mystery for now. Thanks again to everyone for the help.
