Yesterday Land-Mag & others got on with scrapping back the trench. At first they thought they had come down onto a clay floor with some insitu tessera. However, I'm pretty sure that its clay sealing the demolition layer & we need to go much deeper.
I put in a couple of hours digging at the end away from the demolition where there maybe a ditch seen on the geophysical survey.
I did a small 5 metre by 1 metre trench within the trench. I was still finding barb wire & modern glass at this depth which is a little puzzling as its below the plough. Still tons of digging to go.
So as not to blank (other than my pottery/tile finds), I did a 1 hour hunt, but the coins are getting hard to find after our 8 years of gridding, so I ended up with 1!
We have yet to find any metal objects/coins in the trench other than lead & nails.:icon_scratch:

Good luck with further digging! :icon_thumright:

It's the only site we get these.(nearly unheard of in our area) They are all white (of-white) - found hundreds, & some red roof-tile types.
Yes, to me these are still jumbled up from deeper, so like I said before, fingers crossed.

As deep as the Archaeology lead us.
There was only 1 Archie on site today & we quickly caught him at the end of the day, after our hunt. He has continued scrapping back off of the demolition layer & has come to an edge that has bigger lumps of wall plaster, so he thinks he is now close the either the robbed out wall or if we are lucky there maybe some stones insitu.:dontknow: Long way to go yet but they are getting bags of material, lots of after dig analysis to do.

UPDATE:

Although I missed seeing the Archies today, here is an update of the trench & a key find - Roman Wall Plaster.
They have also found 1 scrappy in the top of a ditch feature.
