Purchasing Historical Maps

Can anyone recommend a good source for purchasing historical county maps for US states? I was thinking some really ggod maps is probably a better investment than a new detector. I am interested in maps of Central New York particularly.

Been there done that, beware of 90% of what's out there if copies. they loose detail.

the only maps worth Purchasing, if you can't find them online are historical Atlas's
by F.W.BEERS Originals can run a couple hundred to a few Thousand dollars depending on condition & Rarity
But detail is there. & Complete county atlas's can contain towns, that no longer exist
