.....the girls have been coming to the feeder with their guys....but not the kids yet because it's far to "out in the open" to risk with the cats yet. Have seen them, almost stepped on one...still very small & hiding most of the time. Will try to get pic.'s if I can....:)

I've got herds of those critters too. When they have their new born babies they seem about the size of golf balls and follow mom in a long line.
The leader of the pack will perch on a fence post and deliver instructions to the herd like a traffic cop.
NM entertainment.

Yeah TJE...something like that. Maybe I'll google it & see what they say about those "Lures". I did see one quail that had a "double" one! Of course I didn't get a picture & haven't seen him again.

Such beautiful quail. We don't have that kind here, but I was raising a few Pharaoh's & Italian quail. Only had 3 left out of 11, I would let them roam free for awhile then they would return to the cage. They been lingering around in the wooded area by their cage and would return sometimes 2-3 days later. Just hatched some peachicks...4 of em.

That's so nice to know squiggy!

River Rat...not familiar with those types off quail, sound pretty though. You need to post pictures of your birds, if you haven't already?

I just love the colors on the quail and exotic pheasants. I used to raise peafowl, and Golden (Red), and Lady Amherst Pheasants. I have been thinking of getting a few different varieties again.

As for the plume on the head, my assumption is it most likely it is used in courtship. But the question is, why would the female of the species have the plume?

Yeah, it's odd that they both have one......oh, speaking of "Plumes"...I do have a picture of the one that has what looks like a "double" one! It was odd & thick...
