Hello Welcome coin collector :coffee2:,
I have question 1916-d mercury dime is 264,000 mintages vs 1855 3 cent silver is 139,000 mintages. 1855 3 cent silver is very lowest than 1916-d merc. How come 1916-d merc so soar price than 1855 3 cent silver? 3 cent silver very easy lost coins. I have few talk dealer coin they said long time lot people pocket feel nothing touch 0n 3 cent silver so pull out spill on ground very easlier lose. Thank you very much :icon_sunny:

Its supply and demand. The 16-d is a very sought after coin, thats why its priced so high. I have an 1887 one dollar gold peice they minted 7,500 of them and its worth knowhere near as much as the 16-d. But I'll hang on to it, maybe someday.

There's a lot more people that collect the mercury dime series than the three cent silver type. I guess in the case of 1916-D Merc dime the ratio for DEMAND to SUPPLY is much greater than that of the 1855 3 cent silver. Even though there's more SUPPLY of the Merc dime, the DEMAND is even higher!

It also depends on how many "surviving pieces" are out there to still be found or collected. Goodluck finding any of those in the ground. It is of course why we do what we do I guess..... ;D jgas

Rarity does not always indicate monetary value. This is the problem that many people encounter when starting a new hobby, all too often we pay too much because an item has a low production. Low production often means the item was not popular when produced and still may not be popular, therefore vlaue seems low when compared to a popular item with a higher production rate.
